On August 28, 2023, the final meeting of the Heritage BIM project consortium took place in Prague. The meeting summarized the three-year project under the Erasmus+ program entitled  “Heritage BIM – enhancing digital competences of students of architecture” whose leader was Lublin University of Technology, represented by the Department of Monument Conservation. In addition to our university, research units from Italy (Politecnico di Milano) and the Czech Republic (Brno University of Technology) participated in the project, together with non-academic partners represented by companies from the architectural industry specializing in BIM technology - Bosco Studio (https://www.bosco.studio/), Allplan (https://www.allplan.com/cz/) and Harpaceas (https://www.harpaceas.it/). The project budget was 376,763 EUR.

The aim of the “Heritage – BIM” project was to introduce a comprehensive approach to the analysis, planning, protection and use of historic buildings through the implementation of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in teaching students of architecture. As part of the project, the "Heritage BIM" course was developed, which will enable students to acquire high-quality professional knowledge and digital skills that are very desirable on the labor market. Thus, the competitiveness of our university’s graduates will be increased.

Activities carried out under the grant included adapting BIM technology methods to the implementation of projects for the protection and management of historic buildings, developing a curriculum and teaching materials for the Heritage BIM course, along with pilot implementations of the Heritage BIM course at universities participating in the project. The aim of the project was also to improve the qualifications and skills of employees of partner universities: short-term training of employees in 3D laser scanning, modeling in BIM as well as designing historic buildings in BIM.

The expected results of the project are the following: enrichment of the educational offer of partner universities adapted to the current requirements of the labor market; introduction of the Heritage BIM course to the curriculum of EU universities; intensive Heritage BIM course for professional designers offered by non-academic partners and, above all, a lasting cooperation network based on knowledge transfer, experience and good practices, building the research potential of partner universities.
