Department of Roads and Bridges

The Department of Roads and Bridges, within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, is a centre of excellence in education, research, and professional collaboration in the field of transportation infrastructure. It brings together an accomplished team of academic staff whose recognised expertise is reinforced by the energy and potential of a new generation of researchers.

The Department’s work focuses on key challenges in bridge and road engineering, combining theoretical investigation with practical application. Its academic and research portfolio includes the mechanics of bridge structures, bridge theory, and the structural and technological aspects of bridge construction. In the field of road engineering, the Department is actively engaged in the development of advanced materials and pavement technologies, as well as in traffic forecasting, transport planning, and road design.

The Department’s mission is pursued across three closely interconnected areas:

  • education,
  • scientific research,
  • cooperation with industry and the public sector.

A distinctive feature of the Department’s profile is its strong scholarly and educational contribution, reflected in a wide range of publications, teaching resources, monographs, textbooks, and conference papers devoted to the planning, design, and development of roads and engineering structures.

By combining academic excellence with practical relevance, the Department of Roads and Bridges contributes to the advancement of modern civil engineering and to the sustainable development of transport infrastructure.
