Scientific Activity

The Department of Roads and Bridges pursues research across a broad range of topics related to bridge structures and road engineering. Its scientific activity addresses both theoretical and applied aspects of transportation infrastructure, reflecting the Department’s strong commitment to the advancement of civil engineering knowledge and practice.

The principal research interests of the Department’s staff include, in particular, the mechanics of composite bridge structures and the wide range of structural issues associated with them, the strengthening and rehabilitation of bridge structures, as well as the dynamics and aesthetics of bridge engineering works.

The Department also undertakes scientific research in the field of innovative road pavement technologies, with particular emphasis on the development and application of new materials and on pavement recycling.

The outcomes of these research activities are reflected in numerous books, monographs, and publications in specialist scientific journals.
